END OF THE LINE. 'SOUTHLAND' SEASON FIVE HITS THE UK...

Fans of quality US TV can rejoice with the news-finally!-that the fifth and last season of the Ann Biderman created gritty cop drama, showing the genuine realities and consequences of Los Angeles law enforcement: SOUTHLAND, at last returns to MORE 4 HD next week (Thursday 13th February 2014, 11pm)- but why its taken over a year for the channel and programme schedulers to put it back on baffles me (Perhaps their choices and decision making are part of a self-distinguished allure to create mystery around themselves: the master manipulators- the next BIG BROTHERs of TV- of what and when we should be watching...).

Since its debut in 2009, every season of SOUTHLAND has delivered the requisite dramatic punch and on the ground thrills and adrenaline moments that would make it such a beloved series, and this concluding run of ten episodes, with a final episode that will genuinely shock, looks set to live up to its mantra of not pulling any punches, as the final destinies of our very flawed heroes, including Detective Lydia Adams (Regina King in one of her best TV performances), come to light...

Miss Biderman may have departed the series proper a couple of years back, but the series dedicated cast and production teams have kept to her legacy in crafting a series that deserved far more acclaim and a better UK transmission slot than it got- should it ever be repeated on CHANNEL 4 (where its runs have languished in an absurdly late-night time slot), or elsewhere, let's hope its treated better ...
