New trailers: Bill & Ted Face the Music, Beyoncé’s Black is King, and more - The Verge

Posted: 25 Jul 2020 07:00 AM PDT

I spent last week burning through The Great, Hulu's new-ish series that has Elle Fanning playing a very fictionalized version of a young Catherine the Great. The first season is about Catherine (not yet the Great) preparing to overthrow her husband, the emperor, and take power, which is a pretty amazing conflict to center on.

The show is very reminiscent of The Favourite (it shares both a writer and a very identifiable shooting location), infusing this period drama with modern absurdity and some very over-the-top characters. Nicholas Hoult plays the amazingly pompous and bro-y emperor in a way that almost makes him feel like a tech CEO at times — at one point, he's even wearing what looks a lot like a hoodie.

I don't know if the show can thrive once Catherine is no longer the underdog and — spoiler alert, per Peter III's Wikipedia page — Hoult's levity is gone. But for now, it's a wonderful series, and I wish there were three more seasons to speed through.

Check out 11 trailers from this week below.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

Bill & Ted are returning at long last, and the pandemic isn't going to put a hold on our already long wait. It was announced this week that rather than being delayed, the film is going to head on-demand the same day it hits theaters (whatever theaters are open, that is). It comes out on September 1st.

Black is King

After Hamilton, Black is King is the next big reason to sign up for Disney Plus: a new visual album from Beyoncé, supposed to be tied back to her work on last year's Lion King remake. It looks every bit as visually magnificent as the others in Beyoncé's discography. It comes out July 31st.

His Dark Materials

I didn't hear a ton about His Dark Materials when its first season debuted last year, but the show really looks like it's hit a stride in this trailer for season 2. The series returns some time this fall.

Utopia

Gillian Flynn is behind the adaptation of Utopia, a show about fans of a comic book digging into the surprisingly real events depicted in its stories. The show is based on a British series of the same name. John Cusack, Sasha Lane, and Rainn Wilson star in the remake. It debuts on Amazon this fall.

Don't Look Deeper

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has a new sci-fi thriller about a high school student who starts to uncover lost memories that suggest she isn't human. It comes to Quibi on July 27th.

Immigration Nation

Netflix has a new documentary coming up that looks at America's immigration system through the eyes of immigrants facing deportation and the federal agents tasked with removing them. It appears to offer a sad, difficult view into a broken and contentious system responsible for tearing families apart. The film comes out August 3rd.

Truth Seekers

Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are back together again in Truth Seekers, a new series that has them playing members of a group of clearly unprepared paranormal investigators who get tied up in some big conspiracy. The show is coming to Amazon, but it doesn't appear to have a premiere date yet.

Bad Ideas with Adam Devine

Quibi already brought back Punk'd, and now it's adding a Jackass-esque show that has Adam Devine messing with celebrity friends. It comes out on July 27th.

Biohackers

Netflix has picked up a German series about a student who starts diving into an increasingly twisted community of biohackers. I don't know how accurate the series' science will be, but the questionable decisions of the biohacking scene don't seem entirely unfair. The show debuts August 20th.

Spree

Stranger Things star Joe Keery takes on a very weird role in Spree, which has him playing a twisted, fame-hungry cab driver who live streams himself torturing the riders he picks up. This film is far from the first to offer a twisted critique of social media, but it stands out by filming everything to look more or less like a YouTube video. It comes out August 14th.

Sputnik

Creepy stuff happening to astronauts is a classically winning recipe for a sci-fi film, and the latest to use that formula is Sputnik, which seems to be about a cosmonaut who returns to Earth with an alien parasite inside him. The film seems to start out as a thriller and eventually gets a lot more action packed. It comes out August 14th.

Correction July 25th, 12:30PM ET: Utopia is on Amazon, not HBO, as originally stated.

This week’s TV: Beyoncé’s ‘Black is King,’ Olympic stress, and Emmy viewership - The Boston Globe

Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:58 AM PDT

Does that mean more people will be interested in the Emmy Awards this year? The ratings for the annual telecast have been dropping steadily, hitting a record low last year of 6.9 million viewers. Despite the respect and popularity of TV in recent years, the awards have drifted toward irrelevance.

Maybe TV is too fractured to bring in Emmy viewers, since we're all watching different shows on different channels and streaming services. There are very few mass hits like "Game of Thrones" out there, and now, of course, there is no "Game of Thrones" out there either.

Nonetheless, the Emmys are proceeding. The nominations will be announced on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in a virtual event streamed at Emmys.com. Leslie Jones is going to host the announcement, along with Laverne Cox, Josh Gad, and Tatiana Maslany. (Here's my wish list.) The Emmys will be handed out on Sept. 20 in a live ABC event of some sort, and Jimmy Kimmel is hosting.

WHAT I'M WATCHING THIS WEEK

1. On Friday, Beyoncé is releasing a visual album called "Black Is King," which is a companion to last year's Beyoncé-curated album "The Lion King: The Gift." According to a release, the film will reimagine "The Lion King" for "today's young kings and queens in search of their own crowns," and it will be set in places around the world including South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, London, and Belgium. Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowland, and other artists from "The Gift" will appear. It's on Disney+.

2. Hulu has licensed a few British series, and it is making them available this week under the header "The British Binge-cation." 2A. The only one I've seen so far is "Maxxx," due Tuesday, which is a broadly amusing comedy about a former boy-band star trying to make a comeback and getting in his own way. It was written by and stars O-T Fagbenle, who is best known here for playing June's husband on "The Handmaid's Tale." 2B. On, Wednesday, the release is the coming-of-age comedy "Ladhood" from comic Liam Williams. 2C. On Thursday, it's "In My Skin," another coming-of-age story, this time about a 16-year-old girl whose home life is darker than she lets on. 2D. And Friday brings "Brassic," about a bipolar boy and his his best friend — I mean best mate.

3. The HBO documentary "The Weight of Gold," which premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m., explores the mental health challenges that Olympic athletes face — challenges that the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Games has only exacerbated. The film features accounts from Olympic athletes including Michael Phelps (who is an executive producer), Jeremy Bloom, Lolo Jones, Gracie Gold, Bode Miller, Shaun White, Sasha Cohen, David Boudia, and Katie Uhlaender.

4. "The Go-Go's" looks back at their ascension from bar band to the big time in 1978. With interviews with original members Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, and Jane Wiedlin, the documentary also chronicles the band's internal issues. "We didn't communicate," Carlisle says in the trailer. "And when we did communicate, we didn't do it in a respectful way." Directed by Alison Ellwood, who also directed Starz's "Laurel Canyon," it premieres Friday at 9 p.m. on Showtime.

5. On the day Donald Trump was elected president in 2016, Michael Tubbs, 26, became the first Black mayor of his hometown of Stockton, Calif., as well as the youngest mayor of a major American city. Take that, Mayor Pete. "Stockton on My Mind," on HBO Tuesday at 9 p.m., follows Tubbs's personal and political journey, exploring how growing up amid poverty and violence shaped his bold social and economic policies.

Inside Beyonce and Jay Z's £71million Bel Air home - HELLO!

Posted: 03 Jul 2020 12:00 AM PDT

Bridie Wilkins

Beyonce lives in a £71million mansion in Bel Air. She moved into the home with her husband Jay Z in August 2017, marking the highest-selling transaction in LA in 2017, and the inside is a true reflection of its eye-watering cost. It spans 1.88 acres and includes eight bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, a 15-car garage, staff quarters, a home cinema, four pools and a basketball court. Take a look…

SEE: Inside Jennifer Aniston's jaw-dropping Beverly Hills home

The living room

Beyonce previously shared a photo of Jay Z and P Diddy in their living room. It has grey carpets and glass panels on the walls. There is also a blue velvet sofa with a metallic gold frame.

The swimming pool

Beyonce previously shared a look at their rooftop pool (they also have three more elsewhere on their property). The infinity design overlooks Bel Air, and there is a large seating area with beige sofas and a fire pit.

The walk-in wardrobe

Beyonce often shares a look inside her walk-in wardrobe as she gets ready for red carpet events. It's decorated with wooden floors and cream walls and wardrobes, with an enormous floor-to-ceiling mirror framed with warm light bulbs. There's also a cream sofa in the room.

The room has floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which are operated at the touch of a button. And apparently Beyonce has enough shoes to last a lifetime.

The kitchen

Beyonce showed a tiny glimpse inside the family kitchen when she posted a photo of herself after arranging a bunch of flowers. It has dark wooden floors (which run throughout the property), and large patio doors with white frames leading out onto the terrace.

The driveway

Beyonce and Jay Z have an endless driveway made of natural limestone. The main building features floor-to-ceiling glass windows across the entire ground floor.

The balcony

The couple have their own terrace, with white wooden decking and railing. It overlooks the grounds of their property, including their four outdoor swimming pools.

The basketball court

Beyonce and Jay Z have their very own basketball court. It has a navy and white colour scheme, with floodlights for when the sun goes down.

The It List: 'Sky High' turns 15, Beyoncé drops 'Black Is King,' Katie Holmes stars in 'The Secret: Dare to Dream' and the best in pop culture the week of July 27, 2020 - Yahoo Entertainment

The It List is Yahoo's weekly look at the best in pop culture, including movies, music, TV, streaming, games, books, podcasts and more. During the coronavirus pandemic, when most of us are staying at home, we're going to spotlight things you can enjoy from your couch, whether solo or in small groups, and leave out the rest. With that in mind, here are our picks for July 27 - Aug. 2, including the best deals we could find for each. (Yahoo Entertainment may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page.)

STREAM IT: Enjoy a performance from the late Kelly Preston on the 15th anniversary of Sky High

The late Kelly Preston, who died of breast cancer at 57 on July 12, starred alongside Kurt Russell, Michael Angarano and Danielle Panabaker in this 2005 family action flick. She plays Josie, who's known as the superhero Jetstream to the masses and just plain mom to her teenage son Will (played by This Is Us actor Angarano). He's navigating a world where someone wearing a cape and flying through the sky is no big deal, questioning whether he can — or even wants to — live up to the legends that are his parents. Preston even did her own stunts, even though wearing a harness was tricky. "It's completely a fantasy to be able to fly on your own," she said while promoting it. And she was proud of how Sky High turned out. "It's such a great family film and so much fun and it brings everybody together," said Preston. — Raechal Shewfelt

Sky High is currently streaming on HBO and HBO Max.

STREAM IT: The Secret: Dare to Dream dares to hit video on demand (plus watch Katie Holmes in an exclusive clip)

It was an insanely popular 2006 documentary, then a 2006 self-help book that sold 30 million copies worldwide, so it's no surprise that a feature film adaptation of Rhonda Byrne's global sensation will now dole out wisdom on your nearest streaming service. (Of course the original source of The Secret dates back over a century; it was inspired by the 1910 book The Secret of Getting Rich). In The Secret: Dare to Dream, Katie Holmes plays a struggling widow and mother of three children re-energized by the arrival of a positive-thinking handyman (Josh Lucas). There should be at least 30 million people interested in this one, assuming they're keeping their beliefs alive. Check out an exclusive clip from the film featuring Holmes above. — Kevin Polowy

The Secret: Dare to Dream premieres Friday, July 31 on VOD services including FandangoNOW.

STREAM IT: That wascally wabbit, Bugs Bunny, celebrates his 80th birthday

Eighty years ago, Bugs Bunny first popped out of his rabbit hole in the 1940 cartoon short, "A Wild Hare," and pop culture has never been safe from his wascally antics since. In the ensuing eight decades, the signature Looney Tunes star has confounded easily confused huntersenraged anger-prone waterfowl, starred in video games, played basketball opposite Michael Jordan and appeared on all manner of merchandise. Warner Bros. is celebrating Bugs's milestone July 27 birthday with a variety of products, ranging from postal stamps to Funko Pops to sports-themed art. You can also stream classic Looney Tunes shorts — as well as all-new episodes — on HBO Max. That's what's up, doc. — E.A.

Looney Tunes shorts and all-new episodes are currently streaming on HBO Max.

STREAM IT: Waterworld turns 25, and looks more prescient than ever

Twenty-five years ago this summer, Kevin Costner's mega-budgeted aquatic Western, Waterworld, rode into theaters on a wave of bad press and behind-the-scenes troubles that diverted attention away from what was onscreen. A quarter century later, the movie stands tall as an example of spare-no-expense ambition, not to mention a vivid realization of a climate change-caused dystopia. Set in the far-off future (although less far-off now) when the polar ice caps have melted covering the world in water, the film follows Costner's lone Mariner as he sails the seas on his decked-out Trimaran and picks two passengers (Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tina Majorino) who are searching for mythical "Dryland." While the film suffers from some storytelling lulls during its expansive two-and-a-half hour runtime, the top-notch action and production design preserve the last gasps of Hollywood's pre-CGI era, and Dennis Hopper provides plenty of flamboyant energy as the "smoker" villain, The Deacon. For better and for worse, there's never been a movie quite like Waterworld… and that's why it deserves to be celebrated. — E.A.

Waterworld is currently streaming on Starz, and can be rented or purchased on Amazon and FandangoNOW.

STREAM IT: The gang's back together for Muppets Now

Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the rest are here to brighten up what so far has been — let's face it — a very trying year. And while they've teamed up on several TV series over the years, Muppets Now marks the delightful bunch's first unscripted series. The premise here is that Muppets stage manager Scooter — the orange guy with the glasses — is charged with delivering a new show from the gang, despite any obstacles. If you've ever seen Animal or Gonzo in action, you know that's going to be entertaining, if nothing else. Expect cameos from RuPaul, Seth Rogen, Aubrey Plaza and other recognizable fans of Jim Henson's whimsical puppets. — R.S.

Muppets Now premieres Friday, July 31 on Disney+.

STREAM IT: Kerry Washington takes you behind the frontlines of The Fight

Actress Kerry Washington produced this documentary that looks at four cases (of 173 total, as of the making of the film) that the American Civil Liberties Union has brought against President Trump's administration. The cases featured center on citizenship, the separation of immigrant families, abortion rights and the transgender military ban. But don't let your eyes glaze over, because this doc, a darling of this year's Sundance Film Festival, is packed with emotion. The audience sees immigrants separated from their families reuniting with loved ones, lawyers and advocates reacting to court decisions, and some of the vitriol the ACLU encounters. "It's kind of difficult to imagine higher stakes," one legal eagle muses as he works on a case about whether the Trump administration can add a question about citizenship to the census. (Offscreen, the Supreme Court blocked efforts to include such a question in June 2019 and the census has since gone out without it.) — R.S.

The Fight premieres Friday, July 31 on most VOD services including FandangoNOW.

WATCH IT: Ron Howard's documentary, Rebuilding Paradise, chronicles the way a town does — and doesn't — come together after a natural disaster

Paradise, Calif., burned to the ground on Nov. 8, 2018 as part of the wildfires that raged in and around the Sierra Nevada foothills. Ron Howard's new documentary, Rebuilding Paradise, opens with frightening footage of the town's final moments, as residents try to escape with whatever possessions they can stuff in their cars. The rest of the story is given over to the ways that the survivors try — and in some cases fail — to rebuild their lives and community in the wake of that tragedy. Filmed over the course of a year, Howard's cameras capture the simmering tension between homeowners and California's power company, PG&E, as well as the inequities that exist between Paradise's working class families and the wealthier citizens. (Truthfully, the film could have spent a little more time exploring the latter subject, as Paradise's subtle class divisions and less-than-diverse population belies its image of itself as a picture perfect town.) Even though Rebuilding Paradise is ultimately an uplifting portrait of a community's attempts to move on from great tragedy, the closing moments offer a bracing reminder that the source of Paradise's destruction could very easily return if we continue to ignore the environmental warning signs. — E.A.

Rebuilding Paradise premieres Friday, July 31 in select theaters and digital services like FandangoNOW.

Beyonce's mom defends singer against critics - Wonderwall

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:32 PM PDT

The Beyhive's No. 1 fan has some stinging responses to fans criticizing Beyonce.

The singer's mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, came out firing after several people on social media criticized Beyonce for her upcoming visual album "Black is King," claiming she's trying to capitalize on African culture.

Alan Davidson/Alan Davidson/Shutterstock

In a post, Tina noted that several of Beyonce's collaborators are from Africa.

"There's way, way more involved in the making of Black Is King but my point in posting this is simply that those who are criticizing the film (before they even see it) saying it's unauthentic, upset that B doesn't actually go to Africa or say that Bey is simply using African cultures for gain are wrong because 1. She makes less with her Afrocentric content. 2. She's actually taken the time studied African costumes and such and didn't just throw this together. She's worked with actual African dancers, film makers, directors etc on this project so for some African Americans and Africans to say it's a facade is truly discrediting the work of their own people," Tina wrote in a lengthy post.

Continues Tina, "While people whine about her not touring in Africa yet beg for more African representation in entertainment but are mad that they're getting it from one the world's greatest stars is strange to me. They'd rather have B come and they spend their money for a show once or twice every few years rather than have someone of African descent work with African creatives to create art that celebrates them that will last forever and it be done at no cost to them.)"

Jim Smeal/REX/Shutterstock

In another post, Tina blasted critics who have essentially been telling Beyonce how to film the movie, calling on them to "stop being a social media terrorist to the wrong people."

"It is funny because it is so easy to criticize someone when they are doing something. You can always tell them how they could do it better especially if you're not paying for it," she wrote. "Some of you criticize under the thinly veiled guise of educating her. But you haven't seen anything but a 3 minute trailer and you judge so quickly. You can't tell her what to do in her movie! There is a storyline How do you know east or west works in this movie? She is working hard on getting it shown in Africa. But you really should not waste your time seeing it. You should be busy making your own."

"Black is King" premieres on Disney+ on July 31.

Shawn Mendes's little sister has his heart.

David Fisher/Shutterstock

The pop star already has one tattoo to honor his 16-year-old sister, Aaliyah Mendes, and he's now added a second permanent tribute.

On Sunday, tattoo artist Kane Navasard posted a photo of Shawn's new tattoo: the name Aaliyah Maria in a cursive font. The tattoo appears on the singer's chest, just below his collarbone.

"A sweet dedication, on the man @shawnmendes," the tattoo artist wrote on Instagram, tagging the "In My Blood" singer in the photo, as well.

Shawn, 21, has not commented on the tattoo or given a reason for getting it. Last year, he also got the letter A tattooed behind his ear as a tribute to his teen sister.

The singer already has quite the collection of tattoos, including a sparrow on his right hand, a lightbulb full of flowers on his shoulder and a butterfly designed by a fan. He also has an elephant on his finger that he got with his mom. His most meaningful tattoo could be that of a guitar made of trees on his forearm. The very top of the guitar is reportedly a sound wave of his parents voices saying "I love you."

The ex-factor at Julianne Hough's 32nd birthday party over the weekend was none other than Brooks Laich, her estranged husband.

Broadimage/Shutterstock

Over the weekend, the former "Dancing With The Stars" pro celebrated with a pool party, according to a social media video posted by her dear friend Nina Dobrev. Page Six said the video shows Julianne doing a trick on an inflatable pool toy. Brooks can be seen in the video laughing along to his estranged wife's waterlogged antics.

Interestingly, in an Instagram video posted by Julianne, presumably from the party, the birthday girl used hashtags to claim she's "single as a pringle."

Julianne and Brooks revealed in May that they had separated after nearly three years of marriage, an announcement that was made as they quarantined in separate states amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate," the duo said in a joint statement. "We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward."

Despite the split, sources close to the couple have indicated that there is a definite chance for a reconciliation, particularly given that the former NHL player allegedly still carries a torch for Julianne.

He is "definitely still open to getting back together with Julianne," a source recently told People magazine. "If that were an option, he would be all in."

The source added, "Her friends and family love him, and everyone is pulling for him. He's a great guy, and they would love to see Julianne give things another chance."

Post Malone could be cashing in on his well-documented love of beer.

Broadimage/Shutterstock

According to TMZ, Post is looking to lock up the rights to the "World Pong League," which would be a professional beer pong league. The rapper and his team have already filed for a trademark on the name, and Post wants his league to operate beer pong tournaments, competitions, events and exhibitions, the documents state.

The "World Pong League" is still very much in its infancy, but the league, should it get off the ground, will sell beer-affiliated merchandise, such as cups, ping pong balls and drinking glasses.

Post is an unapologetic beer lover, and he even stars in a Bud Light commercial. Last year he and the brand also collaborated on cans that featured Post's face.

"I'm so excited for this can," he said at the time. "It's something I was very passionate about and it's so sick to see my mug on a Bud Light can."

The rapper, who's been quarantining at his compound outside of Salt Lake City, recently told WSJ. Magazine that his drinking hasn't stopped during isolation.

"We're just getting hammered every day," he said, adding that he drives to adjacent Wyoming to buy kegs since beer retailers are the only ones allowed to possess kegs in Utah.

Regis Philbin made his love for the University of Notre Dame well known, and now he'll be buried there.

A spokesperson for the college confirmed that the beloved "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" co-host will be buried at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, which is on the campus of his alma mater in South Bend, Indiana. No date has been set.

The funeral service will take place at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, which is also on campus.

Regis, who passed away on July 24 at the age of 88, was a huge supporter of The Fighting Irish, and he spoke about the college often, even bringing the school's mascot onto his morning talk show. In 2001, he also donated $2.75 million to the school to create the Philbin Studio Theater, a performance art venue on campus.

"Regis regaled millions on air through the years, oftentimes sharing a passionate love for his alma mater with viewers," Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins said in a statement. "He will be remembered at Notre Dame for his unfailing support for the university and its mission, including the Philbin Studio Theater in our performing arts center."

TMZ reported Regis, an icon who held the Guinness World Record for most hours on camera on television in the United States, will also be honored in some way by the Notre Dame football team.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic and rising cases in Los Angeles, Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Paulson and more friends still found a safe way to mark close friend Sandra Bullock's 56th birthday.

The actresses attended a casual outdoor and socially distanced celebration for the Oscar-winning mother of two where they all wore masks, Jen revealed on her Instagram Story hours later.

"Celebrating our girl properly distanced with so much love," Jen captioned a selfie taken by Sandra late on July 26. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDY WE LOVE YOU!!!" Jen added along with a few heart and party-face emojis.

In the photo — which was captured by an Instagram fan account — a makeup-free Sandra can be seen wearing a white mask with her eyeglasses sitting atop her head while Jen's seated on a wicker couch several feet away wearing a blue-and-white tie-dyed mask and holding her hands in a prayer-like pose. Next to Jen, Sarah can be seen in a hat, mask and glasses, and seated in a wicker chair a few feet away from her is longtime love Holland Taylor, who's waving at the camera while wearing a mask too. A masked woman who appears to be Amanda Anka — actor Jason Bateman's wife — is seated several feet away from Jen on the same couch.

Jen and Sandra have been friends for decades. In an early 2020 Interview magazine sit-down in which the "Gravity" actress interviewed the "Friends" star, they revealed that a mutual ex-boyfriend — actor Tate Donovan — is responsible for kicking off their friendship.

"We were introduced by our former boyfriend. I say 'our' because you and I both partook of this one human being," Sandra said. Jen responded, "Yes, we did. That's a beautiful way of saying it," while Sandra added, "We both partook of Tate… Who was a very patient human being, given that he dated us both."

"He seems to have a type," Jen quipped, with Sandy adding, "Talented. Funny. Kind. Introspective. Generous" and Jen tacking on, "Lovers of architecture, lovers of interior design." That was the first time they met. The second time was at a friend's wedding. "I sent you a note and you sent me a shot," Jen said of Sandy.

It's been a tumultuous few weeks for Kanye West, but reports suggest that following his brief hospital visit for "anxiety," he appears to have calmed his nerves and returned to "focusing on music."

"[He] seems much more relaxed and chilled out for the past couple of days," a source tells People, adding that he still harbors "regrets about sharing such private details" about his wife, Kim Kardashian West.

"He definitely understands that he upset Kim. He feels very bad about it. It's obvious that he still loves Kim," says the insider.

At a somewhat disastrous South Carolina rally for his presidential campaign, Kanye revealed that Kim initially considered having an abortion when she was pregnant in 2012. He later posted multiple rants on Twitter about Kim and her family members and said he wanted to get a divorce.

The rapper has since deleted those tweets and apologized publicly to his wife.

"I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter," he tweeted on Saturday. "I did not cover her like she has covered me. To Kim I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me."

A source later told ET that Kim and her family "are hoping this public olive branch is a start for him in allowing Kim to help."

The same day he apologized to Kim, Kanye was spotted entering an emergency room near his Wyoming ranch. According to ET, he had been feeling anxious, but only stayed for a few minutes. He reportedly had doctors see him privately at home instead.

Kim, meanwhile, shared a long, public plea for "compassion" with regard to her husband last week.

In the post, the reality star acknowledged Kanye is likely suffering from a manic episode related to his bipolar disorder. She also reminded fans and critics alike that making pubic assumptions about someone else's mental illness hurts everyone who's struggling with a similar disorder.

Kanye previously announced he would also be releasing a new album named after his late mother, "Donda," on Friday, July 24. That album never materialized, but Kanye did post an image of the album artwork over the weekend.

On Sunday, an insider told ET that after getting some assurance that he was in decent physical health, he returned to working on music in his studio.

People's source shared a similar statement, telling the magazine Kanye is "very excited about his new music and can't wait to share it with the world."

As for the album's delay, the source added, "He wants it to be perfect though. And it's almost perfect."

Blake Lively is in love with Taylor Swift's new album, "Folklore," which reportedly features confirmation Blake and Ryan Reynolds named their third child Betty.

"Can we all please crawl inside that piano with you and live in this album.." Blake wrote to her pal Taylor on her Instagram Story (via People).

"Like you, Folklore is full of heart, soul, humor, passion, intelligence, wit, whimsy, reality, imagination, strength, vulnerability, and above all things: Love," the actress wrote.

Blake opened the note with a big "thank you" to the singer. She also thanked Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, who produced "Folklore," Bon Iver, who's featured on the songs "exile" and "peace," and William Bowery, a co-writer on two tracks who fans believe is actually Taylor's boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

(Over the weekend, Billboard reported that even Aaron Dessner doesn't really know who William Bowery is. "I think he's a friend," the producer told Pitchfork.)

While Blake didn't explicitly mention the song "betty," fans have noticed the track's lyrics include the names Betty, Inez and James. Given that Blake's 3 and 5-year-old daughters are Inez and James, it's not a leap to suggest her 9-month-old daughter is Betty.

Blake and Ryan have kept their new daughter's name under wraps since she was born last fall. They kept the names of Inez and James private for as long as they could, as well.

A source also reportedly told People "betty" was named "in part" after her friends' baby.

Taylor released "Folklore" at midnight on Friday after announcing she had a brand new studio album ready for the masses on Thursday.

The album sold 1.3 million copies in just 24 hours, according to Variety.

"She said yes!"

That's how Tarek El Moussa announced his engagement to Heather Rae Young on Instagram early Sunday morning after he popped the question at the Descano Beach Club in California.

"The Future Mrs. Tarek El Moussa!!!!" Heather, 32, wrote alongside the same photo on her Instagram page.

According to ET, the two were celebrating their one-year anniversary when he proposed.

Congratulations poured in quickly from the couple's friends, with Amanza Smith, Heather's "Selling Sunset" co-star noting she secretly thought the two might get engaged this weekend.

"OMG!!!! I was soooo hoping this would happen during your amazing anniversary adventure! Congratulations babe! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 big hugs to you both!! Xoxoxo," Amanza wrote in the comments.

Tarek, who split with his reality show co-host Christina Anstead in 2016, went public with his relationship with Heather in August of last year.

It wasn't long before Christina moved into Tarek's "bachelor dad pad," as he called it. This spring, the pair moved into their first home together, in Southern California's Newport Beach.

The move sparked engagement chatter, but as Heather told ET in May, she was in no hurry to walk down the aisle.

"We just have the best time together. He's my best friend in the whole world and I'm just really enjoying what we have right now. I don't feel like there's a rush," she said at the time.

"And honestly, I want him to feel a hundred percent ready. He went through a very public divorce. He went through a really rough time, and I want him to do it when he feels ready. And like I said, I'm loving life and I'm loving every single day with him and the kids and I'm not in a rush," she continued, referencing the son and daughter Tarek shares with his ex, Christina.

" I mean, do I wanna be engaged? Of course, who doesn't," Heather told ET. "But I'm not pushing him."

Guess there was no pushing needed!

It's been nearly five months since Courteney Cox saw her longtime partner Johnny McDaid — and she's literally counting the days.

Rob Latour/Shutterstock

The actress, 56, shared a screenshot from video with Johnny on Instagram on Saturday, after virtually celebrating his 44th birthday with him as they two navigate being apart because of the pandemic.

"It's been 133 days since we were last together. Covid sucks," she captioned the post. "Happy Birthday J. I loved our lunch/dinner (LA/London time) zoom date today. I miss you madly. ♥️♥️♥️ ," she added, calling him "#myone."

RELATED: Celebrity love life news for June 2020

The sweet post garnered nearly 900,000 likes in one day, plus comments from friends including Isla Fisher, who wished "sweet Johnny" a very HBD, saying she and her husband Sacha Baron Cohen miss him too, Debra Messing, and Rachel Zoe.

On the plus side, Courteney and Johnny have plenty of experience making a long-distance relationship work. The former "Friends" star, who's based in Los Angeles with her daughter, regularly shares posts with the Ireland-born musician from his homebase in the U.K., while Johnny traveled to the U.S. regularly to be with Courteney.

That was prior to the coronavirus pandemic, though.

With positive cases on the rise across most of the United States including California, and the U.K. branded the site of "Europe's worst outbreak" over the weekend by the Associated Press, it's reasonable that Courteney and Johnny might opt to stay apart until a vaccine for the virus is available.

In the meantime, the two seem to be doing everything they can to be virtually together, despite the phsical distance between them.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her show back in May, Courteney explained that Johnny had returned to Europe for work just before the lockdowns started.

"He was supposed to go to Switzerland to write. He went to England first, then all of the sudden they called quarantine," she said at the time.

"I have not seen him in so long. You don't realize — I mean, we spend a lot of time on FaceTime — now it's like oh my god, I just miss his physical touch. It's been hard. This is the longest time."

Courteney and Johnny began dating in Jaunuary 2016. They were engaged by the end of that year, but called off the wedding (twice) and separated briefly before reuniting.

Beyoncé Once Spent $100,000 for a Pair of Designer Gold Leggings - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:09 AM PDT

Spending $100,000 while being designated a music superstar might still make common people cringe. When it becomes Beyoncé, things seem a little more forgivable.

Whether one wants to criticize Beyoncé for paying top dollar for leggings is up to the individual. The facts are clear, though: She was never afraid to once spend six figures for leggings…made of gold besides.

Placing this in the proper context requires a bit of explanation. Plus, it might come down to a "what would you do?" scenario if someone had the money Beyoncé has.

Take a look back to when Beyoncé bought those leggings, the criticism, and why she really bought them for a particular TV occasion.

Beyoncé's gold leggings were a splurge

RELATED: People Were Concerned Beyoncé and Jay-Z's Marriage Was Suspiciously Like a 'Business Merger'

Everyone should keep in mind that this seemingly impulsive purchase goes back 13 years. In more recent times, it seems Beyoncé is keeping her shopping more undercover, if maybe being more conservative with her money.

No doubt the times make a big difference, including having no public appearances on award shows or concerts. Still, Beyoncé did appear on TV recently during One World: Together At Home as a fundraiser for COVID-19.

Even then, her appearance was far more down to earth. Go back in time to 2007, however, and things were very different. Yes, even the world was a polar opposite from where it is now. What was the same as now was Beyoncé as an opulent music superstar?

At the time, Beyoncé was in the middle of her solo breakout years, particularly her B'Day album. She was also already becoming one of the wealthiest music stars in the world, if not quite at the level she would be in the next decade. Making an impulsive purchase was more than allowed.

Who made the golden leggings?

These particular leggings came from Balenciaga, reportedly. When Beyoncé saw them, she must have had something specific in mind to show them off. It turns out she was later seen wearing them at the 2007 BET Awards during another memorable live performance.

Nevertheless, many media outlets went after her for the purchase as being an outrageous buy for something so simple to wear. Maybe some people missed the "gold" part of the leggings description.

The entire outfit gave a bit of a preview of the elaborate wardrobes Beyoncé would use in her ensuing TV and concert performances. Somehow, she found a way to top wearing gold leggings as the years went on.

Was she still blindsided by the media response to her buying them? Since those days, it seems many of Beyoncé's most impulsive purchases are mostly for her kids.

What other impulsive buys has Beyoncé done since 2007?

No one should forget Bey has also been one of the most generous people in the music industry when it comes to giving back. Her money has gone toward natural disaster funds, black colleges, and a recent donation toward COVID-19 relief.

On a personal level, everyone remembers her overspending on birthday gifts for her daughter, Blue Ivy, plus buying a private jet for husband Jay-Z. Her generosity is well-known, yet buying for herself is arguably not as often as people think.

Based on all evidence, she does not spend her money impulsively on a regular basis. Most of those purchases are on beauty products or vacations. For instance, chartering time on a luxurious yacht is fairly common for people in her income bracket.

When it comes to food, she also hired a personal chef, not including a live-in dietitian. If critics still argue all of this is beyond what even some other millionaires spend, fans need to remember maintaining the persona of Beyoncé takes a lot of capital to keep it going.
